Beatrice is holding another workshop for a small group of people to learn the basic Japanese shibori (tie-die) methods of resist dyeing using a range of materials and indigo dye to create the patterns.

One of the richest textile traditions in the world, shibori has been used for its rich colour, bold patterns, and intricate designs in Japan, Africa, India and South America.

The day course will begin with an introduction to the history and culture of shibori and indigo, followed by demonstrations of the techniques involved in creating different patterns.  Everyone will have the opportunity to make a wide range of fabric samples, using cotton, linen and silk fabric, covering a range of techniques including tied resist, stitched resist, wrapped resist, clamp resist, fold and pleated resist.

All materials will be provided.  Everyone can design their own cotton tote bag and a choice of other products.
Lunch is not included but there are plenty of cafes in walking distance. (You are welcome to bring your own lunch).
